    Good

Proximity to city centre Winter breakfast menu was really great.

Very noisy. The hotel offers ear plugs when you arrive which you need for the construction noise starting at 6am and the yahooing drunks at 3am. The rooms are dimly lit The rooms need overhauling. All a bit tired really

    Very good

Was upgraded to a deluxe room which was a good size with a great bathroom. The pool looked fantastic but I did not use it. Very comfortable bed. A portacot was provided and staff happy to help with warming a bottle up for the baby.

Thought it was quite expensive for what it was and breakfast not included in the rate. Blinds in room a bit shabby and could not be opened to allow for natural light. I also had a double pram and there were 10 -15 steps to access the hotel from the street.

Centrally located. Really liked the Flinders Lane vibe. Very helpful staff especially for securing a table at Movida at the last minute.

Concierge gave us a great dinner recommendation and the bed was very comfortable. Tidy and generally well-kept. Location is very convenient - close to the main shopping areas and a number of great shops and restaurants. Best part of the hotel.

Pool was advertised as being heated but was ice cold - yes we tried! Though construction was noted across the street (and we decided to book anyway as I've always wanted to try it) they are also renovating the bar above the pool deck which wasn't mentioned anywhere, not even their own website. There was significant noise throughout the day, probably made worse by the fact that our room was precisely below them. Luckily we decided to be out a lot but it was intrusive.

    Good

Loved the "Italian" feel although the rooms are starting to show their age and appearing shabby. Liked the opportunity to have a plunge coffee. We forgot to look at the roof pool which apparently hangs out over the street. Next time maybe!

Very noisy location with many bars and construction works nearby.

Good location. Friendly staff. Nice big room (we paid the extra) Even though it is only about 15 years old there is a certain nostalgic charm about the overstyled decor ...

... but basically it is becoming very dated, very fast and the little charm it has does not compensate for those aspects that are plain uncomfortable (such as the couches many other reviewers commented on) and the attempts to keep its style current (such as the new artwork in the lobby) are woeful. However, it is the little things that count and even the bad couches and art would be acceptable if the Adelphi paid attention to the little things to ensure one's comfort ... but they don't. for example: Scratchy sheets (felt like they'd been starched) Big continental pillows shoved into conventional pillowslips so that they were as hard as rocks The blinds on all 4 windows were broken so that you couldn't open them. The bedside clock was so bright you could have read a book by it which was useful because the bedside light was so dim you couldn't and it's switch was so high above the bed you couldn't turn it off without sitting up and stretching to reach it. There were many other little things (the leaky shower, the oddly positioned tap in the bath, the exorbitant charge for wifi, the terrible cable TV choices, the door closers that ensured that every door slammed, etc) but before I run out of room I must comment on the breakfast. First, there was the huge TV showing one of the 'Morning' shows at full volume. Then the chaos began. With 5 tables with 2 guests at each the 2 staff managed to deliver the wrong meals to every table in the room. My partner had finished his breakfast and it had been cleared away before my reheated omelette arrived. Many people have said the Adelphi needs a makeover. I would be happy to see the poor old place preserved as a relic of the 1990's if only they also attended to some of the basic principles of comfort and really paid attention to good design rather than superficial (and now out dated) style.

    Very good

warmly received on arrival, information about city, transport etc readily given. Room was good, as expected. (We have stayed many times before). The bathroom was not properly cleaned on the second of our three day stay -- this was not our usual experience. The leather couch has seen rather too many years, I think. The rooms still have their appeal on account of design, generosity of space (particularly for such a location), but it would be great to have one or two paintings or prints on the bare walls.

See above about old (never was ver comfortable) leather couch.

We had a function to go to on the 10th floor, so it was convenient to stay there the night. Rooms are very dated, there is no view and I believe it was overpriced for what you got on a Saturday night. Staff were also very unaccomodating

As above. Rooms are very run down

    Very good

The room was clean and quiet and the staff friendly.

The lighting in the bathroom is pathetic. My wife described putting her make up on as "having done it by braille". I experienced the same when I tried to shave. I cannot believe a hotel like the Adelphi is so neglectful of such a basic need of light in a bathroom.

There was an initial problem finding my booking. This was rectified in moments and I was upgraded. The room was fantastic. I normally stay in The Westin across the street and the room was comparable yet half the price.

I liked the minimalistic feel about it, without an comprimise to luxury. I was very impressed with the room decor and the general apartment/concrete feel to the place. The reception and bar area were very inviting and I liked the eclectic art work that was scattered about the hotel. The bathroom in my room was incredible, clean and very high spec.

The noise, but I stayed there knowing full well that there was construction taking place on the other side of Flinders Lane. I thought it was very thoughtful to supply earplugs for guests. Although saying this the noise did not wake me and start at a reasonable hour.

The excellent location and well kept rooms at a reasonable price.

It is a small hotel. Often when at the reception area there is no one else there. The staff are very non invasive and the atmosphere relaxed. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are extremely comfortable. I love that they have free wi-fi now which is easy to access. The position is amongst some of the best eateries in Melbourne which are open fantastically long hours. When jet-lagged I could pop out for breakfast at 6 and get dinner at 3 in the morning. And the coffee in Melbourne is kicking.

At the moment Melbourne has a lot of construction going on the the Adelphi is in the middle of it. Noises can be heard early but the hotel does supply ear plugs by the bed. They provide bottled water by the bed. It is part of the mini bar but easy to miss and is quite expensive as far as water goes.
